Tuesday, Day 2 - Cairo & the Pyramids

Your tour will start with a visit to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, which houses the world’s largest collection of Pharaonic artifacts and the treasures of Tutankhamen’s tomb. Then drive to Old Cairo to visit Al Moallaka Church, a Coptic church also known as the Hanging Church filled with remarkable works of art, and Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in Egypt.
After a stop for lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, which is the largest and oldest of the pyramids on the Giza Plateau. There are many mysteries surrounding the construction of this feat of architectural genius, such that it could not be duplicated to this day even with the use of modern technology and knowledge. More amazing is Herodotus’ claim that it was built in just 30 years with the use of 100,000 slaves, and that it has been the tallest structure on Earth right up until the 19th century.
Within short walking distance of the Pyramids is the Great Sphinx of Gin, built in 2620 BC in the likeness of then King of Egypt Chephran (Khafre). The ancient monument — 187 feet long and 65 feet high — is a human-headed lion wearing a royal headdress, sitting in guard of the Great Pyramids.
You will conclude today’s trip with a visit to the Solar Boat Museum that was supposed to have carried Khufu upon his death in his ascension to the heavens to join his father.
